The Do's and Don't at the Casino

During my last visit to the casino I was amazed at the number of people that have absolutely no idea of what they are doing. As I was playing video poker, I had two different people sit down beside me and ask "how do you play video poker?" My response to them was if you do not know how to play poker you really shouldn't play this game. I explained to them that maybe they should go online and learn how to play for free. No matter what I was telling them, they still put their money in the machine and begin to play. I told one elderly lady to play one quarter at a time if she must play. She decided to play the max, 25 quarters per hand ($6.25 per hand). Her reasoning is that she always plays the max on slot machines, so it must work the same way on video poker. Needless to say she lost her $100.00 in less than 10 minutes and continuously threw away the wrong cards while playing. Another thing I noticed; many people leave credits in the machine because they think the game is over. In most cases they didn't notice that they had entered into a bonus round and had to press a designated button to start the round.

To help those of you who are visiting the casino for the very first time or with very little casino experience, here are some Do's and Don't:

First, don't consume alcohol when gambling, if you plan to win or leave with more money than you came with. The Casinos offer alcohol beverages not just because they want to be nice to you. Alcohol and gambling is a bad combination.

Check out the Pay Tables. Many times I have seen patrons walk up to the first machine they see, drop a coin in the slot and the reel hits three of the same icons right on the line. However, they are disappointed to find out that they must play three coins for that combination or set of icons. Most progressive slots require that you play the maximum amount. Read the pay tables.

Take breaks. If you find that you are winning, take a moment to go to the restroom, wash your face, have a snack, or walk around for a minute. If you like to come back to the same machine maybe you can have someone to hold it for you for a couple of minutes.

Don't Loose your head. You may not win at the first few machines. If you did not win, don't try to make the machine hit. Most casinos have thousands of slots, MOVE ON.
Divide your play into thirds. If you have let's say $300 , and you like playing slots, then try playing $100 on dollar slots, $100 on 50 cents slots and $100 on quarters slots. Choose a progressive machine somewhere in this play. People do win on progressive machines, so why not try a few spins.
